The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is launching in China this week. The Xiaomi 17 series made its debut in China back in September as the first smartphones to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.

The Chinese smartphone maker released three smartphones in the line-up, including the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. However, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will make its debut as the most premium phone in the series, sitting just above the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra launch date is confirmed to take place on Christmas, December 25, at 07:00 pm local time or 04:30 pm IST. Those interested in watching the Xiaomi 17 Ultra launch live will be able to stream it on the company's official Weibo handle, closer to the launch date.

We expect the Xiaomi 17 Ultra to make its debut in India sometime in Q1 2026 alongside the vanilla Xiaomi 17. It is unclear whether the Chinese smartphone maker will release the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max in India, although we haven't seen a 'Pro' model in the company's flagship line-up in the country since the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Positioned as the next-generation champion of night photography, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra introduces significant advancements in low-light imaging and long-range capabilities. At the heart of its rear camera system is a 1-inch Omnivision OV50X primary sensor, which utilizes advanced LOFIC technology to deliver superior dynamic range in difficult lighting, such as night scenes or high-contrast firework displays.

This is complemented by a standout 200-megapixel Samsung periscope telephoto lens featuring Leica APO-certified optics. This larger module supports continuous optical zoom across a versatile range, enabling high-clarity distant shots and professional-grade macro photography.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and features a high-efficiency flat display. To support its high-performance internals, the phone reportedly houses a massive 6,800mAh battery capable of 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

Beyond raw power, the 17 Ultra includes premium features like dust and water resistance, ultra-wideband (UWB) support, and satellite connectivity on its higher-tier variants. According to a report by Gizmochina, citing the rising costs of premium components on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the handset is expected to debut with an increased starting price of 6,999 Yuan (approximately Rs 89,200).
