Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chip Built for Samsung Galaxy S26 Series: What's New?
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a new flagship mobile platform designed specifically for Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series.

The chip will power the Galaxy S26 Ultra globally. The Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 will use the same platform in select regions, excluding India. The move continues Qualcomm’s long-standing collaboration with Samsung on Galaxy-branded silicon variants.
Custom-Tuned for Galaxy Devices
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy is built around Qualcomm’s third-generation Oryon CPU, paired with an Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. The company describes it as its most advanced mobile platform so far.

Rather than focusing only on clock speeds or benchmarks, Qualcomm is positioning this chip around tighter hardware and software integration for Samsung’s Galaxy AI features.
On-Device AI and Camera Enhancements
A key focus of the new platform is on-device AI. Qualcomm says the chip is designed to handle more personalized and context-aware tasks locally, which could reduce reliance on cloud processing for certain features.
The platform also enables camera-related improvements, including support for Advanced Professional Video capture on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These capabilities are tied to Samsung’s software implementation, but the underlying processing is handled by the new chipset.
Connectivity and Wireless Features
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy includes Qualcomm’s Smart Transmit technology, which dynamically manages uplink power across 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and satellite connections.
It also integrates the FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity System. On supported Galaxy S26 models, this includes Ultra Wideband support for short-range interactions and device awareness features.
Price And Availability In India
The Galaxy S26 starts at ₹87,999, while the Galaxy S26+ is priced from ₹1,19,999. At the top end, the Galaxy S26 Ultra begins at ₹1,39,999, going up to ₹1,89,999 for the highest storage configuration.
Pre-orders are already live across online and offline retail channels, with open sales scheduled to begin on March 11.
