UIDAI’s Aadhaar App Revamp: Enhanced Privacy Controls and Family Management Features

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new Aadhaar app for Indian residents. This app allows users to store their Aadhaar cards digitally. Recently, UIDAI hosted a webinar titled "Offline Verification using the Aadhaar App," which attracted over 250 participants. The session aimed to educate stakeholders on the benefits of offline verification through this app.

During the webinar, UIDAI's CEO, Bhuvnesh Kumar, highlighted the advantages of offline verification. He stated that it offers a "secure, convenient and privacy-protecting method" for identity verification. This approach reduces the need to share physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies, which can lead to "potential fraudulent practices."

UIDAI Showcases Offline Verification Benefits in New Aadhaar App

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

The newly launched Aadhaar app is available for both Android and iOS users. It provides various functionalities, including storing Aadhaar card information securely. Users can choose to share either a masked version or all details with others. This flexibility ensures privacy while sharing necessary information.

Unlike the mAadhaar app, which allows downloading a copy of the Aadhaar card and ordering a physical Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) card, this new app focuses on digital storage and sharing options. The mAadhaar app remains available for those who prefer physical copies.

Practical Uses of Offline Verification

UIDAI officials explained that offline verification via the new app is useful in many situations. For instance, when checking into hotels or entering residential societies, residents often need to present their Aadhaar cards. The app simplifies this process by allowing digital sharing instead of carrying physical copies.

This initiative follows UIDAI's announcement about the new app's launch, emphasizing its potential to enhance user experience by offering secure and flexible identity verification methods.

The introduction of this app marks a significant step towards reducing reliance on physical documents. By enabling digital storage and selective sharing of information, it aims to protect user privacy while ensuring convenience in everyday scenarios.
